The World Series line for Wednesday’s opener at Yankee Stadium between New York and Philadelphia is backing a pitcher’s duel, even though the Yankees and Phillies have two of the most potent offenses in the majors. Two ex-Cleveland players who won Cy Young awards there will be the focus of online betting players. Phillies vs Yankees odds – Wednesday, October 28, 7:57 PM ET Cliff Lee (2-0, 0.74) has been amazing since coming over from Cleveland at the trade deadline, giving the Phillies another pitcher to balance out the struggles of Cole Hamels, last year’s World Series MVP. Lee was brilliant in his last outing, an 11-0 rout of the Dodgers as he tossed a three-hitter over eight innings with 10 strikeouts. The 31-year-old southpaw is 4-4 with a 5.02 ERA in nine career outings against the Yankees, including 1-1 this year, and one of those wins came against his former Cleveland teammate. C.C. Sabathia (3-0, 1.13) took a no-decision when the Yankees lost 10-2 at home to Lee’s Indians on April 16th, but this is a new ballgame for the player who was signed to lead the Yankees to the World Series. Sabathia scattered a run on five hits over eight innings of a 10-1 romp over the Angels on the road, striking out five and walking two along the way. Against the Phillies in three career starts, the 29-year-old lefty is 1-1 with a 4.35 ERA, including a no-decision this year. Your sportsbook has the Yankees as a -168 favorite, and the over/under has dropped a half-run from 8.0 to 7.5 in a day. Oddsmakers are wary about a power surge from these two with Lee and Sabathia on the mound, and they should be as these two have been on fire during the postseason. Neither has pitched in a Fall Classic game before, but they would both be solid World Series picks for tonight, and to win the MVP if their team goes on to win the whole thing. There is literally nothing between these two former Indians, and it’ll come down to a small detail, like base-running or fielding, to give their team an edge. Give to Sabathia and the Yankees in New York. Online sports betting pick: Yankees -168 |

New England may be the NFL betting odds favorites against after their absolute humiliation of Tennessee, and now they get to go overseas for the NFL’s third annual trip to London’s Wembley Stadium to face Tampa Bay. The Bucs may have to call a district attorney when they get back to the United States after the beating they’ll take. This is a much easier call than deciding between the Yankees and Phillies in this year’s World Series picks. Patriots vs Buccaneers odds – Sunday, 1:00 PM ET Once you knew the backstory to New England’s 59-0 thrashing of Tennessee, it sounded like something out of a Gambino Family news report of revenge: when it was alleged (and then proven) that the Patriots were spying on other teams, Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher said some less-than-savory things about New England. Fast forward to last Sunday’s snowstorm, when the Patriots racked up a 45-0 halftime lead, and Tom Brady threw an NFL-record five touchdowns in the second quarter. Brady ended up going 29-of-34 for 380 yards and six scores in total, while the Patriots held the Titans to an abysmal -7 yards passing. The Bucs gave up a last-minute touchdown in a 28-21 loss to Carolina, and those who bet on sports aren’t surprised that Tampa Bay is this bad with a new head coach, and essentially a brand new regime. The Bucs had only 245 yards of offense, and two of their three scores came from defense and special teams. Josh Johnson was 11-of-17 for 147 yards and a pick, and it’s tough for the charges to get behind the young quarterback when the system is such a mess. By the end of this game, Johnson may be kneeling to kiss Brady’s ring, or rings. Your sportsbook has the Patriots as a 14.5-point favorite, and you couldn’t make a line high enough for this game. The Patriots looked like they had their rhythm back on both sides of the ball, as the offense will simply overpower the Bucs with deep balls, while their defense will harass Johnson and company like the IRS. It’s not easy to see that you should put the Patriots in this week’s sports picks. |

According to World Series odds, Philadelphia was always one of the favorites to get back to the Fall Classic after winning it all last year. On Wednesday, they’ll have a chance to begin their quest for a repeat as last year’s World Series MVP heads to the mound to go for his second NLCS win against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Dodgers vs Phillies odds – Wednesday, October 21, 8:07 PM ET Vicente Padilla (1-0, 0.63) is the hot hand in the Dodgers’ dugout, and he returns to Philadelphia, where he spent almost six years with the Phillies. He has lots of experience at Citizens Bank Park, where he’s 10-11 in 26 starts with a 4.98 ERA. The 32-year-old hurler was an afterthought when it comes to late-season pickups, but he could prove to be the most valuable, especially since young Los Angeles stars Clayton Kershaw and Chad Billingsley have struggled in the second half of the year. But let’s be real: if someone told you that the Dodgers were getting Vicente Padilla, would you run out to put them in your World Series picks? Cole Hamels (1-1, 6.97) won Game 1 of the NCLS for the Phillies even though he still isn’t pitching up to his normal standards. It’s been a strange year for the 2008 World Series MVP, and it may have something to do with off-field distractions. Hamels’ wife has been pregnant all season, and he immediately left his loss to Colorado in the NLDS to be with her as she gave birth to his son. He pitched better in Game 1 than he did in the NLDS despite giving up two homers, and this could be his breakout performance. The Phillies are a -148 favorite in your sportsbook, and the Dodgers missed a golden chance to tie the series in Game 4 before Jimmy Rollins’ two-run double in the bottom of the ninth off of Jonathan Broxton. The Dodgers may have spent all of their bullets already, as the Phillies’ mix of hitting and pitching seems to be wearing them down. Padilla has had two great starts, but I couldn’t bet on him making it two in a row, given his past. Meanwhile, we know Hamels can do it, he just needs to put it all together, and Wednesday looks like the night he’ll do it. Go with the Phillies as your online sports betting pick. |
