The World Series line for Wednesday’s opener at Yankee Stadium between New York and Philadelphia is backing a pitcher’s duel, even though the Yankees and Phillies have two of the most potent offenses in the majors. Two ex-Cleveland players who won Cy Young awards there will be the focus of online betting players. Sabathia scattered a run on five hits over eight innings of a 10-1 romp over the Angels on the road, striking out five and walking two along the way. Against the Phillies in three career starts, the 29-year-old lefty is 1-1 with a 4.35 ERA, including a no-decision this year. Your sportsbook has the Yankees as a -168 favorite, and the over/under has dropped a half-run from 8.0 to 7.5 in a day. Oddsmakers are wary about a power surge from these two with Lee and Sabathia on the mound, and they should be as these two have been on fire during the postseason. Neither has pitched in a Fall Classic game before, but they would both be solid World Series picks for tonight, and to win the MVP if their team goes on to win the whole thing. Josh Johnson was 11-of-17 for 147 yards and a pick, and it’s tough for the charges to get behind the young quarterback when the system is such a mess. By the end of this game, Johnson may be kneeling to kiss Brady’s ring, or rings. Your sportsbook has the Patriots as a 14.5-point favorite, and you couldn’t make a line high enough for this game. Cole Hamels (1-1, 6.97) won Game 1 of the NCLS for the Phillies even though he still isn’t pitching up to his normal standards. It’s been a strange year for the 2008 World Series MVP, and it may have something to do with off-field distractions. Hamels’ wife has been pregnant all season, and he immediately left his loss to Colorado in the NLDS to be with her as she gave birth to his son. He pitched better in Game 1 than he did in the NLDS despite giving up two homers, and this could be his breakout performance. The Phillies are a -148 favorite in your sportsbook, and the Dodgers missed a golden chance to tie the series in Game 4 before Jimmy Rollins’ two-run double in the bottom of the ninth off of Jonathan Broxton. The Dodgers may have spent all of their bullets already, as the Phillies’ mix of hitting and pitching seems to be wearing them down.
